We in a society in which many people are extremely gullible when it comes to the media. Several individuals believe that if information appears through an external news source, it is truth. This is a detonating mindset to have due to the severe bias within different media sources. It can become difficult to navigate the truth for even the most media literate person. For example, the above news articles are two world renowned and credible news sources which have varying views on this issue. One perspective on this issue is that child poverty is a rampant issue in Canada. Their information is based on fact however, omitting information and rewording the truth, skewers the reader's perception. This article claims that the government is 'evil' and the writer clearly has a deep rooted problem with democracy. Their personal opinions on certain systems such as democracy, trickles into their views. They neglect the social and environmental factors which contribute to child poverty as well as excluding any familial issues that may have lead to this state. They simply state 'the government' as the cause, withholding key points in order to accentuate their point of view. They use the subject of child poverty to voice their opinions on what they believe the state of the government is.By not disclosing other factors, this make readers believe that the government meant to create child poverty and is doing absolutely nothing to stop it which is untrue and misleading. The second article refuses to acknowledge poverty. They believe that the people in poverty are choosing to live that way and it is society's fault for branding them as 'poor'. They tell readers that we are all meant to live in poverty but the human race's evolution is warped. These controversial opinions are misconstrued as facts by readers and believed by many. The truth lies between the lines of the combination of several views. But how to find it, is the question.
